Parties, including Anniversaries and Social Occasions

How to give successful speeches at partiesThese occasions might include wedding anniversaries, a coming of age, a retirement, the setting up of a new business, an anniversary of a business or organisation, the achievement of a particular goal.

Those who arrange such parties often find (to their horror) that they are expected to make a speech, which can spoil their enjoyment of the occasion.

We run a specific course to help with this sort of problem.  It consists of two sessions, the first lasting about two hours, the second one hour.

In the first session we work with you assessing audience and occasion, gathering material, helping to put the speech together, and showing you how to cope with nervousness.

The second session is a week or two later, when you come back with the prepared speech and deliver it to the video camera.  The film is then played back, analysed, and evaluated, while we advise on voice, delivery, and body language.

Your own input is important.  We can write your speech for you if you wish (see Speech Writing), but for this sort of occasion you will deliver a better speech if it is "you" rather than someone else.  Therefore we recommend that after the first session you spend some time rewriting the speech in your own style.

Any unevenness is ironed out in the second session.
