Improvement of English (Letters and Emails)
The aim is to get thoughts out of one head and into another through the medium of words with the maximum ease and clarity.
When we sit down to write an email or a letter, how much thought do we give to what we write, and to what the results might be?
A poorly-constructed sentence may lead to misunderstanding, confusion, and even loss of business.
It is all too easy to fire off an email without giving much thought to what you are saying, and finding perhaps months or even years later that what you thought you said is open to a completely different and unwelcome interpretation.
So this course looks at how best to express yourself. The trend towards informality need not be at the expense of clarity and precision.
The course covers the following:
- Ensuring that you know what meaning you want to convey.
- Making your meaning clear.
- Simplicity and brevity (to ensure accuracy and clarity).
- Being human.
- Achieving style.
- Avoiding slang and sloppiness.
- Making grammar and syntax work for you.
We will ask for samples of existing work to be sent to us beforehand.
